Birch - Whitespire
The Whitespire Birch, Betula populifolia ‘Whitespire’, is an Ed Hasselkus from the University of Wisconsin-Madison introduction with chalk-white bark that does not exfoliate. It is a deciduous tree with a strong central leader and has a distinctive and refined pyramidal form. It is considered more heat tolerant than other white-barked birches; therefore, it is often recommended for planting further south than most other white-barked birch trees. It is tolerant of most soil conditions and considered to be resistant to bronze birch borer. 'Whitespire' has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 4 feet from the ground, and isn't suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions, can be expected to live for approximately 40 years. 'Whitespire' Birch has a higher disease resistance than most other birches which makes this a preferred variety for home landscape use! (Click Merchant link below for full description)
