Chard - Organic
Beta Bright Lights (USDA Organic) Chard, Beta vulgaris 'Bright Lights (Chard)', is a multicolor chard was a 1998 All-America Selections winner. It has stems of many colors including gold, pink, orange, purple, red, and white with bright and pastel variations. The taste is milder than ordinary chard, with each color a bit different. Grown as an “edible ornamental”, you can see why it is an attractive plant for food gardens. The colors are due to plant pigments called betalains, and these stalks hold tender, bright-green leaves. To avoid fibrous, bitter leaves, keep soil evenly moist and mulch to conserve moisture. Water with compost or manure tea every month. Best planted in containers or a flower bed border.
