Tomato - Brandywine - Organic
"Solanum Brandywine (USDA Organic) Tomato, Solanum lycopersicum 'Brandywine Tomato', is an Amish heirloom that dates back to 1885 and is generally considered to be the world's best-flavored tomato. Its luscious flavor is very rich, loud, and distinctively spicy. Plants look like potato vines with good yields of extra-large firm skinned pink beefsteak tomatoes (up to 2 lbs.). Brandywine Tomatoes are the most highly touted tomatoes grown worldwide and few tomatoes can rival the Brandywine family for popularity. Tomatoes should be planted outside after the last average frost date. In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. If you are growing tomatoes in a pot, use plastic because it prevents evaporation and afternoon wilts.
