African Lily - Blue
The Agapanthus Blue, 'Agapanthus', produce buds that start out a steel-blue to blackish and stand up firmly and then they bloom out to a lavender blue and droop down. Agapanthus is also commonly known as the Lily of the Nile, African Blue Lily, and African Lily. The big flowers are comprised of up to 100 tiny tubular florets that are framed by deep green, strap-like leaves. In areas colder than zone 8, these beauties are best grown in containers and brought indoors during the winter. (Click Merchant link below for full description)

Agapanthus are really popular in San Diego. They are pretty much maintenance free, very easy to dig up and divide. The flower spikes look best when a few plants are grouped together. The leaves look great all year. Snails like to hide on the leaves, but don't seem to cause any damage. Buy when in flower if you want to be sure of color. We bought several lues that turned out to be white. Still look great. |
